London Nursery School

Each child in England at the first school term after their third birthday, is entitled to 15 hours per week free childcare funding. Nursery schools and classes staffed by teachers and assistants, provide a non-compulsory phase of education suitable for children in the year before they immediately go to primary schools. They are sometimes attached to a primary school. Both types intend to provide a grounding for the child to start school, offering a range of structured educational experiences based on learning through play. A new kind of kindergarten design encourages kids to be their silly selves.  What does a school do with 4- and 5-year-old kids? How should be the nursery of the future? How children should spend their days in these structures?

AWR - Architecture Workshop in Rome - will give you a chance to confront these issues and problems into London Nursery School Competition.

Arch. Kentaro Yamazaki

Kentaro Yamazaki (born in 1976, Chiba, Japan) is an architect and engages in various projects, interior and architecture across the Asia.In 2008 he established Architectural design firm, Yamazaki Kentaro Design Workshop. In 2011 he opened branch office in Shanghai. In recent years, He has won various design prizes, such as the Gold prize in the JCD DESIGN AWARD 2013 (Japan), IIDA Global Excellence Award 2014 (USA), Selected Architectural Designs Young Architects Award in Architectural Institute of Japan(Japan), Chairman Prizein KIDS DESIGN AWARD 2015 (Japan), Healthcare Award and House of the Year Award from WAN AWARDS 2015 (London), Silver and Bronze Award in Design For Asia Awards 2015 (Hong Kong) and the list goes on.

For him, architecture is not the creation of sophisticated forms, it should also express a certain type of spontaneity. He believes that the true meaning of architecture is not only a portion of society, but also something that strive to become a part of people’s daily lives, and that sharing new value and having open debate is the clue to creating “spontaneous architecture.”
